New navigation receivers have to be developed due to the new GALILEO signals, which are different to the signals of the GPS system. The GATE testbed is the ideal environment for early receiver developments:
Development
and testing of new signal acquisition and tracking
algorithms
Development
and testing of new multipath and interference suppression
methods
Combined
GALILEO/GPS receivers for the mass market
Development
of new 2- and 3- frequency receivers with improved
precision and robustness
Genuine
2D/3D navigation
The development
of receivers is the basis for many new applications. Especially
the highly-robust combined GPS/GALILEO receivers, which
are able to operate/navigate even in difficult environments
(such as urban areas), will give satellite navigation
an important impetus.
The possibility
of experimenting with various different signal conditions
in a flexible testbed allows producers of receivers to
significantly improve their prototypes. Especially the
possibility of providing the receiver producers with a
signal environment for navigation (simultaneous reception
of at least 4 satellite signals) and integrity applications
(5 signals) on the ground, even before the full GALILEO
satellite constellation will be available, furnishes manufacturers
with strategic advantages in developing their devices
and for the subsequent commercial marketing.
Additionally, the integration of GALILEO
IOV satellites allows a seamless transition from the ground-based
GATE to the full GALILEO constellation in orbit. In this
way, receiver manufacturers can prepare themselves for
GALILEO step by step.
'GATE - tested'! - An important
quality feature for the future development of receivers
- And the decisive head start for commercial success!
